“Technology: is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other.” All of the biggest technological inventions created by man – the airplane, the automobile, the computer – says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness-Mark Kennedy. This statement clearly signifies our laziness which is due to technological advancements .Technology has now been the part of our pop culture and is causing downward trending of active people .As the saying doing too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, this is a prime example of just that; to many advancements are bad for the human race as a whole.
First reason for this never ending laziness is the vehicle issue, while not new, humans are way too dependent on their use, but they are one of the things that make the world lazy. Vehicles have provided us with the convenient facility and our survival without vehicles is almost impossible. Factory, industries, housing and other every aspect of development requires the smooth running of vehicles but this invention itself proves the laziness of humans to cover long distances themselves. It was a time when people had to cover long distance with sacks of food on their backs but now food is served by a pretty air hostess and the distance of thousands of kilometers is covered in a matter of few days.
Rise in the morning, push a button and coffee is ready in minutes. The electric razor shaves us, and the electric toothbrush cleans our teeth. One could also credit technology for the obesity level in this country. Most kids who are overweight are overweight because not only do they not eat healthy they spend a tremendous amount of time in front of the TV or playing video games. Today we have remote controls for almost everything: televisions, fans, CD players. This is definitely an invention that has made everyone lazier. Seriously, is it that hard to push the button two feet away?
Furthermore, motivation is also effected by way of goal oriented employers. They are more concerned with how the technology can provide better work, rather than the side-effects of boredom and lost motivation. Technology in one hand is increasing the production and is increasing boredom due to more reliance on machines. People do not know how to get along without the use of technology. All of these factors are becoming more and more apparent, and are becoming all too common. This new influx of technology is causing society to become less tolerant, less motivated, and lazier.
Technology is always expanding and there are going to be many ways that it will benefit people, but also there will be many ways it will make us even lazier. I feel that this has an effect on the everyday lives of many people. We all have seen people who will not walk a couple blocks to eat, but would rather drive one block in their car. Then there is the people who would not go to the library to get a book needed for class, thinking they will get everything they need to know from a lecture but we cannot prove this theory is true for everyone, so let us just leave this thought for us to agree or disagree.
The percentage of the population physically capable of completing a ten-mile run has decreased over the last generation or so. Now a day’s everyone has a car that they can and do take everywhere, even if it is just down the street. For many people in this modern age, the four wheels have taken over the job of two legs. Next is something simple, like using spell check on your computer. “Spell checkers that flag mistakes, like using “their” when you mean “there,” are frequently ignored. It’s grotesque; technology has created a new standard, not of accuracy but of laziness. People are too lazy to take the lazy way out.” Things like spell check were invented to make more time for other things that need to be done, not to add to the laziness pool. It seems business.
